among the cobbled streets of shoreditch, brightly-suited dandies stroll about with ironic wiry moustaches as skinny-jeaned nu ravers skulk and smoke in the doorways of pubs, t-shirt shops and hoxton hairdressers. this is the same part of east london where shakespeare wrote and performed plays as a young bard. it’s also where, last year, archaeologists uncovered bricks from the theatre, one of the earliest playhouses in london circa 1576. it’s also where i work.
